Butterflies, Falling Leaves, Bright Night Skies!
It's butterfly season, and the monarchs are landing on the purple loosestrife, goldenrod, hot pink, salmon, and lavender flocks, zinnias, and dahlias galore. They are getting ready to fly southwest after the sunniest summer we can remember! In the studio, my new accomplice was created: Monkey!! Monkey is learning to speak English.
He traveled with me to Syracuse in July, where inspired by the refugees from the far east and Pre-K classes, a song emerged. We hope to see you this year at your school or family night gala where you can meet Monkey and find out about his second home in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica.

Hi -My Name is Monkeeeeey

If you don't speak Monkey's language (Spanish) find a friend who does and ask them to help you.

Mrs Mc.Puppet Goes HiTech

It's wonderful to share Mrs. McPuppet's music in concert and to see the puppets talk, the characters dance, the vibrant music, the shadow puppets, but almost as nice is bringing Mrs. McPuppet's music home with you. If you didn't pick up a CD at the concert or store, you can now download it and hear it instantly on your Mp3 player.

AND you can even purchase your favorite song.. We're proud to join CD Baby (Baby Hippo LOVES the name) and offer Mrs. McPuppet's music for your instant downloads.

We're excited to start with Blue Sky Sparklin' Day, (Monkeey's favorite album).

You can listen to previews of each song, buy a CD, download Mp3s song by song or the entire album.

Stay tuned as we add more of Mrs. McPuppets' music to CD Baby.

The Monarch Of Fall

  1. To make a monarch butterfly puppet, print this pattern and color it in with bright orange. The male monarch has thinner black veins and a dot on the hind back wing vein (this one is male), females have thicker wing veins. Hold it up to the window and color in the other side or print two and glue them together. Fold the butterfly in half and fold along the wing line. This is where you place your fingers to hold the butterfly. Move it up and down and voila, it flies!

2. Trace the butterfly pattern on another piece of paper and make up your own design for the wings. Listen to the song "Butterfly" on Waltzing with Fireflies and learn about the different stages of the life cycle and the magic of the metamorphosis.

3. To make the caterpillar, cut a strip of paper 6-8" or so long. Color in the stripes for the monarch, black ,yellow, and white. Draw the eyes and round off the front and back. Move the caterpillar along by bringing the tale end up to the front end. It can walk all over looking for a tasty milkweed leaf to eat. Give your caterpillar a name and find a spot where it can spend the night before it is ready to change into a chrysalis. A paper cup might work just fine for that.

4. Click on the image of the butterfly above to open a printable pattern of the Monarch butterfly.

Mrs. McPuppet and her friends just got back from the New York State Fair and having had so much fun they have decided to take a trip to China and Thailand.

Of course, it takes more than a picnic basket so Mrs. McPuppet and friends will be packing and getting ready over the next month.... trunks .. peanuts for Monkeey, Baby Hippo's Baba, a notebook for journalling and a camera to bring the world home with them.

Apple Pie Time: This song is a tribute to the making of an apple pie.Just as the last peaches are being eaten, the apples start to ripen.
How lucky is that!

Purchase a ready made pie crust or make one from scratch. There are so many varieties of apples to choose from and here in Upstate New York we have Cortland, Mackintosh, Northern Spy, Matsu, Honey Crisp, Jonagold and more. It is fun to sample a variety and then choose a combination for  your pie.

If you live near an orchard, hand pick your apples. Whatever works, it is pretty exciting to make a pie, smell it baking, and share it with family and friends. I really did not make my first pie until I was a Mom and had learned by making a pie with a friend. So, ask a veteran pie maker to join forces with you or have fun making one with your children or classroom.

Stone Soup: This song is inspired by the folktale " Stone Soup" which I love because the main character is able to win the town folks over by his creative and clever approach to soup making. He gets everyone involved in the process. My version emphasizes the giving and sharing theme and suits the fall season and Thanksgiving time. Make your own stone soup with local vegetables and have a soup party. Listen to the song and compare it to the different written versions.

Magic Parade: Harry Potter and Halloween come to mind when you listen to this lively swing dance song.
See what kind of motions you can create for the chorus.
    "Let?s do the razzle dazzle
add a wiggle and a waggle
     slither like a snake skin
     abracadabra bippity boo."
