Tea Party Shuffle

The art of conversation and manners can be practiced in the context of a Tea Party. At home or at school, bring your favorite stuffed animal, serve animal crackers and juice ,and talk about manners and conversation. Children will have fun nibbling cookies and chatting. Then everyone can do the dance,

“Let your elbow be the handle, your arm becomes the spout

Shuffle to the left and pour the water out

Simmer for a moment, turn yourself around

Shuffle back to the table and sit right down.”

Aquarium

This song is about life beneath the sea and the fish that swim about, a perfect song to accompany the study of the ocean.  Let children choose different sea creatures to study.

Make a large mural of a coral reef with  everyone drawing the fish and creatures they learned about.

Rise and Shine

This is a great  echo song and a a good way to start the day.

Rise and shine , it’s morning time

Jump in your clothes, lace up your toes

Hop downstairs, sit down to eat

Good morning everybody, did you have a nice sleep.

Out the door, with a skip and a jump

It’s Saturday, and we’re ready to play

Run down to the creek run up the pond

Those frogs and jumpin’, with their green suits on

Feel the sun warmin’ up the sky

Pick some berries for strawberry pie

There are 4 blue eggs in the robin’s nest

It’s the season,  the one I like best.

This is the Spring/ Summer verse above; the Fall verse is on the CD, and the Winter verse is available with just an email to Mrs. McPuppet.

Norman

This is a funny song about a pet rat but the last line of the chorus:

“ and I see you’ve been busy expanding your mind

Could be used in a fun way to encourage learning and growing

Pizza Pie

The rhyme scheme of the verses of this song are aabb.

Write new verses and perform for family and friends.

When I perform for grades 3-5, students perform the song with me and sing their verses.  Ms. Sculley at Homer-Brink School developed a rhyming lesson to create new verses for Pizza Pie. Click here to view and print this sheet.

“Cut it in quarters, cut it in eights

I love the geometric shape it makes

Have if for dinner have it for lunch

The extra piece is fine for brunch.”

Snowman’s Café

During the winter season, this is a song to dance to.

“Shake a leg here, shake a leg there

Shiver like a snowflake in the air

Turn yourself around with a thank you and a please

Wiggle you toes, wobble your knees.”

Curiosity

Let’s stir the pot of curiosity. Share your interests, what do you collect?

Have a curiosity corner or box in the classroom – guess what this is?

It could be a milk weed pod or a fossil or a turkey feather.

 4th of July

The chorus of this song is perfect for marching. In contrast, the verses are quiet, everyone is still. Make flags out of paper, cut , color, and tape onto sticks and have a  parade.

Gingerbread Man

When November arrives  and the holidays are ahead, the Gingerbread Man enters the scene.

This lively song tells the story and everyone can join in to sing  the chorus. Start with just using your arms to suggest running, then stand and run slowly in place and finally full speed ahead ( all in place)

Make puppets for the fox and gingerbread man, click here for directions.
