Dear
Elizabeth,
|
Winter is Almost Here!
|
|
With
only
a
sliver
of
pumpkin
pie
sitting
on
the
counter
and
the
turkey
soup
simmering
on
the
stove,
I am
looking
ahead
to
the
winter
season.
My
mittens
are
ready
for
the
first
snow
fall
and
cross
country
ski.
With
that
happy
thought
I
have
chosen
the
wonderful
folktale
“The
Mitten,”
as
our
feature
song
and
puppet
project.
The
Russian
folktale
caught
my
imagination
and
the
melody
and
lyrics
came
fluttering
down
like
snowflakes
from
a
winter
sky.
Have
a
listen
to
the
song
“The
Mitten”

it's

Sky
Sparklin’
Day.”

Make
a
table
size
mitten
out
of
cardboard
for
the
backdrop
of
your
puppet
show.
Cover
the
outside
with
red
felt
or
paint
it.
When
it
opens
up
for
puppets
to
enter,
you
can
leave
the
inside
plain
or
draw
furniture
for
various
rooms
or
cut
out
pictures
to
represent
the
kitchen,
bedroom,
etc.
even
more
appealing.
Make
table
top
puppets
who
can
stand
on
their
own
two
feet
- Cut two of the mice or fox patterns out of manila paper.
- Color them and decorate with ribbon for the trim on the coat.
- Glue them together at the head and duffle bag. Glue a cork between the front and back of the puppet at the bottom so it can stand up.
- As the story is told or the song is playing, move the puppet along until it ends up in the mitten.
- Patterns for other characters for the story are on my web site - click here to visit and print them. page.
